Jul 15, 2017 I cannot open skype on my mac. I was forced to upgrade my entire operating system (OSX 10.12) so I could use the latest version of skype. It worked for one day, now skype will not open up at all. I used skype successfully for years on this same computer. Step 2: Remove Skype for Business cache. Exit Skype for Business. For example, click the down arrow next to the gear icon, select File, and then Exit. Start Registry Editor. To do this, right-click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press OK. Locate the following subkey: Skype for Business 2016: HKEYCURRENTUSERSoftware.
Original story (from Feb 20) follows:
Looks like Skype is acting glitchy for some users currently. According to reports, the Windows 10 client of the service is closing / crashing at the moment. Users are taking to social media to report the problem.

Here are some reports:
@Skype your PC app is broken. It kicked me from a call and then closed completely. Now when I open the app it loads but then closes again
@Skype Hey guys, I’m having a huge problem with my skype for Windows 10 app. The window keeps force closing by itself, even through the app is still running in the background.
Any fixes to this? pic.twitter.com/2q1Zx1Q2qx

My SKYPE was working perfectly earlier. Now it won't work at all. Everytime I click on one of my contacts. The screen blanks out and minimizes.

For it’s part, team Skype or Microsoft hasn’t said anything about this sudden glitch. But we’re keeping a close eye. Will update this story with more relevant information in real time. So keep checking back.
Update 1
Someone who got in touch with Skype chat support got the following response.
It seems this is an emerging issue now globally. We are having massive reports with same issue
Meanwhile, some users say old version of Skype (available here: https://web.skype.com/en/) works fine. Do give it a try and let us know how it goes.
Update 2
For some users, the service is back to normal now.
It's working again for me!

But we’re still keeping a close eye.

Update 3
The official Skype Twitter account confirms the outage has been fixed.
Hi, Angela. There has been a temporary glitch a moment ago that was already fixed. Please check it on your end.

Skype For Business Mac Manual User
- Make sure that your computer clock is set to the correct time because Skype uses a timestamp as part of the authentication process. If the time is more than 5 minutes off, you will not be able to sign-in and should correct the time and try to sign-in again.
- Next try the Office 365 Skype setup for manual configuration:
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right, Tools, then Options.
- Click Personal and the Advanced button.
- Enter sipdir.online.lync.com:443 as the Internal and External server under Manual configuration.
- Click OK twice and try to sign-in again.
If the above fails, then follow the steps below:
- Exit the Skype client completely. Ensure that it is not still running in the system tray.
- Open an administrative command prompt, type the following, and hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns.
- Locate and delete all folders under: %LOCALAPPDATA%MicrosoftOffice16.0Lync
- Make sure that you can successfully connect to the Web-Ticket service by navigating to: https://webdir.online.lync.com/WebTicket/WebTicketService.svc/mex
If the URL above connects successfully and a page loads, then the Web Ticket service is running properly and there are no connectivity issues. - Try to delete/renew the user’s SIP certificate.
- Open the Certificate Manager by going to Start > Run and typing certmgr.msc
- Expand Personal > Certificates
- Sort by the Issued By column and look for a certificate issued by Communications Server.
- Delete the certificate.
- Remove User's URI
- Open Regedit and navigate to the following path and delete the folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftSharedUcClient.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice. Then open 15.0 or 16.0 depending on your version of office.
- Find the key for Lync and open it.
- Delete the Data for the strings named ServerSipUri and ServerUsername.
Try to sign into Skype for Business again. If none of this helps, contact your administrator to open a case with Microsoft.
